nah not Weller, he looks like he'd piss on you afterwards and slap you around a bit for coming on his loafers.

Sorry, that was rather crude wasn't it? ;)

My gay icon for straight boys was always Strummer. It's probably the name. He would have given you some cheap speed and bought you a takeaway afterwards.

What a refreshing angle Ally! The homo-erotic had ne'er crossed my mind in The Jam days. Women at Jam concerts (certainly pre-Gift) were as rare as a Weller guffaw.

Didn't that twat Sting gird any loins whilst Walking On The Moon in a zippy jumpsuit?

The under-nourished Marc Almond-type make-up and hair was only a year or so away.

sting is just below elton on my list for my on call assassin. surely no one could possibly want to do anything other than thump him.

i've known too many boys who like weller a bit too much. scarily a couple of my girl friends always liked foxton best. is it any wonder i turned out funny ?

And what about that 'Long Hot Summer' vid?

Doesn't that sound bright and fresh and poppy?

The thing is that even the blokiest blokes have deep feelings. They'd like to express them but fear that they'd look like a poof. And they'd like to release their inner dandy but fear that they'd look like a berk. Or a poof. They dream of being someone who could do all that stuff but still be 100% solidly, undeniably blokey. They dream of being Paul Weller.

The only person who dreams about being Sting is Sting.

And the punk-era gay crush for straight boys was Paul Simonon. Obviously.

Me? Straight..some..best friends..blah blah.

But Foxton lust is plain wrong.

Sorry about making a mess of the above....a couple of missing words changed the meaning somewhat...

As I was saying.....it wasnt much fun living up in this part of the world, being in love with Postcard Records and be simply thrilled honeys with Edwyn/James/Roddy.

No matter else, even if you had fathered 3 kids, you were a poof....

In the early 80s, it was real easy to stand up and say you were anti-bomb and anti-apartheid, but no-one really stood up for gay rights...so I thought Weller & Talbot's stuff with Long Hot Summer was a brilliant subliminal message.

Oh and havent an awful lot of rough horrid boys long had a helluva infatuation with SP Morrissey as well?

Re the bright yellow disc....has anyone ever admitted liking Pop Art Poem???

Me! I loved that little period he went through at the Sound Affects time - when he was listening to Gang Of Four, Wire and Joy Division and trying to be 'experimental'. Soft lad.

Never fancied him much though, sorry.

i was just trying to be mean to the horrid lads who took the jam away from us and nearly beat the crap out of at a show in blackpool post going underground and just can't possibly be that macho and foul without there be something fishy going on...
