torment tuesday

joe meek must've been a football supporter. there's no other way there couldve been such anguish pouring out of 304 holloway road. i hate football. i used to like it but preston north end have put me right off. this week is going to be awful. they've just thrown away the season. there's the tiniest hope of the play - offs, but it's so tiny and involves beating birmingham and other teams losing that it's too torturous to think about. and i don't think i could cope with play offs for the third year running anyway. the fact that john leyton was in the great escape is not something i'm taking as any kind of omen. really. bollocks.

'johnny remember me' was made for weeks like this. i'll rattle on about why next week when i've calmed down a bit.

john leyton - johnny remember me

you can watch a gorgeous bit of john leyton singing this here

Sadly I can fell no sympathy for you. As a Southampton fan, but that's the only reason. Down with Lancashire scum, etc.

Well, it could be worse. There are lots of Sunderland supporters in my office, and they are now paying me back for the stick I gave them when we beat them 3 times earlier in the season. Next season's music for coming onto the pitch should perhaps be 'Are you ready to be heartbroken?'. Or perhaps 'Are you scared to get happy?' You certainly should be.

Ah, footie. Brings out the best in human nature (Uh-oh, methinks I'm about to channel Gary Clail: "THEY PUT THEIR HANDS IN THEIR POCKETS...").

i feel awful for not giving 'johnny reemember me' its full tribute. bloody sport.
we'll have 'tell laura i love her' in a week or two and rattle on about joe meek and john leyton endlessly then, i promise.
sorry simone, but i hope southampton stay down - it'd just be shame if all three teams went straight back up and no-one else got a go, except derby- you can go up instead of derby.

My compete sympathy Ally. Football is way of life - and all too often its complete shit. But then there is always that ray of sunshine to make us come back. Sickening really.

Thanks for the song, Ally. Sounds a bit like a spaghetti western theme. I've been meaning to explore the work of Joe Meek and this is a nice start.

Go Mets!

one of the singles i sold to buy the beatles boxed set let it be. i still like the song and its vague air of mystery.

Hey I met Johnny Leyton this week at the launch for the new Billy Fury DVD at Soho House. Was amazing! Also met Vince Eager (Billy's flatmate!) and Clem Cattini (remember Telstar and The Tornados!) as well as Johnny Gentle and Dave Vanian! The DVD is here - it's awesome
