back to life

i missed acid house somehow. passed me by. i saw the smiley faces and the baggy whatnots out the corner of my eye somewhere caught a glimpse out the bus window bar hugged the milk bar and assorted other happenin' spots but it never took. my 1989 moments had a different beat just as room shakin' and heart explodin'. this still makes me tremble

soul II soul - keep on movin'

That was big in my 1989 too - cycling up Tooting High Rd with records in my rucksack to play for the bewildered (un)listeners at Hospital Radio 9 - also The Stone Roses and Pills Thrills & Bellyaches as I recall: I said son, I'm flirty - I only went with your Mother cos she's dirty x

All of those things happening, the baggy stuff, the acid house and this track are all rolled into one for me, where the 80s finally came good after such a promising start and where I finally got my punk or mod at the time it was happening.

I was all long hair and leather jackets at the time - whacking on the metal, grebo and glam punk

That album was everywhere that summer, coming out of every shop and car in the city. Always reminds me of a club called The Good, The Bad & The Ugly off Oxford Street which played lots of I guess you'd call 'grown up' dance music like Soul II Soul and Acid Jazz.

I went to the Milk Bar a few times. Bloody hard place to get into, only ever got past the bouncers when I had a girl with me.
