I can't stand the rain against my window bringing back sweet memories.
Was that one ally?

Most DJ (Wireless) played records -certainly before stereo, used to chop off the intros to songs. I liked 'It's Raining' by Darts, but that my have been free of precipitation noise - like 'Bus Stop' by the Hollies?

Surely The Fortunes (if not the Red Hot Chilli's) 'Storm In Teacup' or 'Here Come That Rainy Day Feeling Again' had the background effects?
'Lightning Strikes' by Lou Christie used to frighten me a bit when I was 4.

Amii Stewart's Knock On wood is another. Although admittedly that was more of a saucy metaphor than an actual song about ver weather.

Also, 'The Rain' by Oran "Juice" Jones had some nice precipitation-type noises in the background. The 12" version also had a hilariously sexist spoken-word rant running through about the last third of it. I really must blog that sometime!

'Laughter In The Rain' by yer man Neil Sedaka had the odd clap perhaps.

Love Reign O'er Me - The Who from Quadrophenia (Wasn't walking in the rain in the film? When Jimmy puts on My Generation?)

Anyway, Love Reign O'er Me is perfect for me, Moony's drums even sound like thunder.

'Walking in The Rain (With The One I Love)' by Love Unlimited has plenty of precipitation in it, plus the added bonus of a smoochy phone conversation with Barry White at the end.

And there's 'In The Rain' by The Dramatics too, that one is positively drenched in the drizzly stuff.

How about?

'Stormy Weather' - by anyone
'Smokestack Lightning'- by anyone
'Electricity' - OMD
Walking In The Rain' - Grace Jones

It's not 'Walking in the Rain' in Quadrophenia, it's 'The Rhythm of the Rain' they're playing at the party ("Is that one mine, can I have that one, ta!") and it has the sound effects to go with the name.

I will also mention lots of things from Rocky Horror and then quietly withdraw...

In another sidekick moment I played something last night that had thundery noises on it but I'm blowed if I can remember what it was now. That's not much help, is it?

'Walking In The Rain' is I think one of the single greatest pop records ever ever made. Ever x

Great tune.

I used to like that Oran Juice Jones song but never heard that twelve! I'm curious now.

That Dramatics tune is terrific. There was a great reggae version of it too but I can't remember for the life of me who did it. Anyone else got a clue?

Definitely no rain on 'Storm In A Teacup' or even Terry Callier's 'Occasional Rain'. But some nice thunder at the start of Durutti Column's 'My Irascible Friend'.

Everyone's studiously avoiding R*d*rs *n th* St*rm, aren't they? Quite right too!

R*d*rs *n th* St*rm bleuurghhh, rock music for sports teachers, cover your ears children! Doesn't the theme from the Prisoner start with a thunder clap?

I've, rather shamefully, never seen so much as a second of The Prisoner.

Here you go, Spud (and anyone else who might be interested) - The extended version of The Rain.

A quick recap: Oran has found out that his laydee's been unfaithful, and is in the process of releasing her back into the community. But not before he's given her the mother of all hubristic dressing downs.

Sample line: "It's my world; you're just a squirrel trying to get a nut."

Nut's about right! Quick, Mrs Oran, run - before he really does whip out that uzi and, umm, flatblast you and your other fella!

Anyway, here it is:

Adam: cheers - I couldn't remember what the song was...too long since I've managed to sit through the whole film...though there was a time I knew it inside out....

...and ta to Kippers. The Juice certainly shouldn't be at large in the community. 'I gave you things you couldn't even pronounce!'. Uh? I'm guessing a pet axolotl...
