Great song. Bought the album on the back of this but can only remember being sadly disappointed by it. The Black Whip was a great slice of political jazz-hop.

The other crew around that time that were so overtly political were Marxman - remember them? They were a hiphop crew from Ireland signed to Talkin' Loud - Sinead O'Connor guested on one track. I saw them live in Glasgow once...their opening shout was "Alright Dublin?"!! Took a lot to get the crowd back on side then!

Nice one Ally. More manchester hip hop up there now, exposing the sinister link with Slade and Frank Sidebottom.

Haven't heard that in yonks! Sounding good; working that sample, keeping that flow.

I did just the same as Anonymous. It was straight down to Record and Tape with that lame disappointment of an album.

They were a lot better at singles. 'Thank U2B Free' was a decent tune. Still got a dusty seven of that...

Can I be a voice in the wilderness and stick up for the C&theV LP? It's worn very well. Years ahead of its time. And those of us that bought it secondhand in Record And Tape Exchange are eternally grateful. There was also a great second Marxman LP on Smith & Mighty's More Rockers label. Only stumbled upon that years later.

Does anyone remember The Ruthless Rap Assassins? Weren't they from Manchester? They did one blinding single the name of which completely escapes me.

Oops, just went to Your Heart Out and saw the videos.

'And It Wasn't A Dream' was the very song I was thinking of.

London Lee,

Just Mellow from the Killer Album is the Ruthless Rap Assassins track I remember. They were from the NW of England.
