once upon a time

thirty years ago last week me and a suitcase and a record player waved off a crying dad and screamed hello london. well shuddered afternoon tottenham but you get my drift. i played lady sings the blues and the birthday present off of my sister volume contrast and brilliance endlessly and they still send me straight back to the box room and the terror of liberation

Think pronuptia might still be there. Sounds like a disease!

The above mentioned photo is total perfection. Had I taken it I might have stopped photography there and then. Four girls each dreaming of living happily after with Limahl. You escaped a wrong 'un there.

Thirty years ago next week, me and a rucksack and a kettle got off the Paignton train at Paddington. And I've just this second posted Billie Holiday before I had any idea you had, how strange but nice x

ace pictures all round. the gold paving hadn't quite reached turnpike lane. it wasn't quite the culture shock landing in assorted bits of west london could've been i'm guessing ... dodging the fights down phillip lane at closing time made me feel right at home

Was down on Denmark Hill first year. 68 buses and Camberwell Green, with not a PC McGarratt in sight.

McGarry, sorry

Excellent photos. There's a lazy way of visually shorthanding an era with fashionable young people of the day - but old people do the job as well because they die off from one decade to the next. 2013's old people don't look like 1983's old people. So I like the old feller with his dog. x

He looks like an old dustman. Gor Blimey trousers and all.

Happy London Anniversary, duck. I'm coming up on my 21st anniversary of moving to the States.
